Lionel Richie on the art of collaboration partnership and disruption

I’ve said before that life begins at the end of your comfort zone. It’s easy to be comfortable—to stay, live and work within a world that’s familiar. But for me, comfort builds complacency.

As a recording artist and entrepreneur, I’ve been lucky to have a career that’s taken me from the stage to the board room and across the world. Through it all, I’ve found that I’m at my best when I’m pursuing opportunities that push me. Put another way, I’ve found that embracing disruption is key to any success I’ve enjoyed.

I’ve also learned you can’t do this alone, particularly in the world of business. You’ve got to find fellow partners who, while bringing different skills and talents to the table, have the same entrepreneurial drive and appreciation for innovation.

That’s why I’m thrilled to partner with Acrisure, a global fintech leader that’s disrupting the financial services sector. Acrisure provides a broad range of services in the fields of insurance, reinsurance, title insurance, mortgage origination and cyber security. Reaching both individual customers and businesses, Acrisure’s offerings are comprehensive and cohesive because of its focus on technology. This drive has allowed Acrisure to draw precise insights from millions of data points, all toward providing better service and solutions.

For example, Acrisure has developed a marketplace that enables consumers and business to access customized coverage and financial solutions in a way that is unique compared with any other company in the world. You might be a homeowner looking for the right coverage for your house, a business owner hoping to protect your company from the fallout of a cyber-attack or a parent wanting to ensure your family has the health insurance it needs. Acrisure’s holistic view of its consumers allows you to do it all in the same place efficiently and seamlessly. I believe it is the future of insurance and financial services.

Focusing on the ‘how’ of partnering

At the core of a good partnership, it’s not just the “what” that matters but also the “how.” Values and culture matter; for me, I’ve always put an emphasis on collaboration and innovation. I’m a big believer in the idea that there is always room to grow and be better—that it’s never good to be complacent. The essence of Acrisure’s “limitless” ethos is all about never being comfortable with the success you’ve achieved. It’s an approach that I have tried to uphold time and time again.

And I’m not the only one who feels this way. More than 75% of its M&A deals have come directly from existing partner referrals. Even in this day and age, word of mouth matters. Embracing intelligence—both artificial and human—isn’t an either-or choice. Without technology, you can’t be innovative, but without the human touch you can’t earn trust. At Acrisure, the two go hand-in-hand, and it’s one of the main reasons why I chose to partner with them as a brand ambassador.

I also admire Acrisure’s recognition that you have to put yourself out there in a noteworthy way. As part of a long list of recent marketing accomplishments, they partnered with the Pittsburgh Steelers to establish Acrisure Stadium as the new home of the storied franchise. They also put their name on Acrisure Arena, a new state-of-the-art venue in Palm Springs, California, that is bringing incredible entertainment and connections to that community. It’s all about choosing the opportunities that are authentic and move the brand forward in a visible way.

So, join us. Get out of your comfort zone. Disrupt your status quo. You may not be certain about what lies ahead, but with the right partner, you can be confident that the opportunities are limitless. I know I am.
